Jk Lubanto on ‘#FreeStellaNyanzi Freestyle’ Speaks Respect for Ladies

Read Time:1 Minute, 18 Seconds

#FreeStellaNyanzi, is an unexpected expression at least for a new budding rapper, JK Lubanto. Who would have thought? This is an example of  or rather attempt to Rap-tivism (Rap activism).

Creating awareness and initiating action through rap?

JK Lubanto is so far the first rapper to express himself on the controversial Makerere University Dr Stella Nyanzi. She was arrested days ago for using rather colorful language referring to the President as a pair of…. you know well. Last year she stripped protesting unfair treatment at the Makerere Institute of Social Research. (We won’t go into that).

Free Stella Nyanzi is a freestyle,  a 16 advocating  for the freedom of Stella Nyanzi recorded at Portbell Drive by Nase. In JK’s perspective she is a free voice for the voiceless.  He highlights her social building initiative (the free pads for girls and others).  Besides Stella Nyanzi, he reasons out that sexual harassment is for the 1980s. Beyond Stella Nyanzi as a ‘victim’, this message is important to our current time.

Whether it is a stunt for JK or not thumbs up to him. In case you didn’t know hip hop enables artists to express themselves. One would think it is a coincidence for hip hop to be socially conscious.  Its not the case.  JK Lubanto seeks to use his gift to respond to social issues similar to what a day to day activist would do.
