Moonlight is an exotic, calculated and conceptualised project inspired in part by the fictional stories of the moon and wolves. Martha Smallz the one half of AirporTaxi released Moonlight last week, 30th March,2019. This is her official debut project on her Moon Music outfit.
She outdoes her self and repurposes herself to create melodious music with magnetic currency:An export of the glorious Airport Taxi days to an independent artist with self sustaining a sound.
Moonlight features Tucker HD on As If and F.U.Z.Y (who is her sister) on Instagram Model. The features add some diversity and memorable verses. The rest of the project is under her control as an artist. No trace of rush is felt on this record.
Conceptually, the album explores a certain transition symbolised from the signature sound of a wolf and constant reference to the moon (music). Popular literature achetypes the moon, especially the full moon as a marker of change. Martha allows her self to transition throughout the project musically, temperamentally – this is growth for as an artist with a multitude of influences.
Why you wanna be in my inner circle? – asks Martha on Fake Love
You can characterise this piece as a meeting of Martha’s soul, alternative rnb and hip-hop influences. As I stated earlier, the symbolism drawn from the moon gives us the many shades of the same artist. Look at the shades as Sonic entities put together for this album to become what it is. Moonlight concerns itself with the matters of the heart: requited, then unrequited love, appreciation of a loved one and tells us to keep away from Fake love. A moment is allowed to comment on Instagram models.
On first listen; Fake Love, As If, Instagram Model and Proof are some of the outstanding songs of the eight tracks. The tracks under 30 minutes and have playback ability.
Moonlight is likely sofar Martha’s best full length and best work so far that starts with a bang and soothingly ends with the title track Moonlight that reminds you that RNB can be revived.
